One way to engage students in learning is to read them stories that they will learn through. In one of my classes, we each created our own original math story. Mine is titled "Olivia's Adding Adventure" and it is intended for preschool to kindergarten aged students. Olivia goes through her day and encounters math dilemmas as she's on a walk. The students are engaging with this book by helping Olivia count what objects she sees and helping her with math when a dilemma arises. Students will learn when they are engaged in the classroom, and reading them a story about math can change the pace of a typical math lesson.
