What is component 2C? Managing classroom procedures is very important for the teacher to maintain a well-ordered class. The elements of the component are managing instructional groups, managing transitions, managing materials and supplies, and performing non-instructional duties. Managing instructional groups is done when a teacher prepares his/her students well enough for group projects that they can work without much teacher interruption. This just means the students know what is expected of them and can manage themselves in a group project without the teacher's help. Managing transitions is when a teacher is able to keep the students engaged in activities and lose very little time between activities. The students know the expectations the teacher has set for them and what needs to be done and they can complete the transition in a timely manner. Managing materials and supplies is when a teacher has the necessary materials on hand and has taught the students how to collect the materials as to not disrupt the class. This helps teachers to save time and put more responsibility on students to know how to collect materials in a quick and quiet manner. Performance of non-instructional duties is when a teacher can do classroom duties that are not related to instruction without interrupting the flow of class. These duties include taking attendance, passing back permission slips, collecting papers, or other related activities.
How can it be implemented in the classroom? Teachers can make an "attendance board" and "lunch board." On these boards, the students could have magnets with their name or picture on them and when they arrive to school in the morning, they can be responsible for moving their magnet to the "present" side of the board and they can move their other magnet to either "packed" or "buying" for lunch. This saves the teacher time and shows the students how to be responsible. Another way to incorporate this in the classroom is to have cubbies for all the students so any papers that need passed back are put into the cubbies. This saves instructional time for the teacher and keeps all the papers in one place for the students.
