Domain 2 of Danielson Framework is the center of creating a successful classroom. Establishing a culture for learning where all the members of the classroom respect one another is the key to motivating students to learn. Management of procedures and behaviors creates a classroom that runs smoothly and does not lose much instructional time. Organizing the physical space of the classroom can make a huge difference of whether or not the students are comfortable and safe in the room.
In a science class, creating a room that is safe and encourages discussion makes for a comfortable and welcoming classroom environment. Establishing procedures for the set-up and clean-up of lab experiments makes sure that students are safe and efficient in these activities. Managing student behavior is also incredibly important in a science classroom because students need to be focused and concentrated on the subject so they are being safe while learning. Caring about your students is vital to creating an environment of respect and rapport. They will respect the teacher when they feel as though the teacher respects and cares about them beyond the four walls of the classroom. My virtual co-op shared all of these tips and more with me when discussing domain 2. She does the best she can to attend sporting events, musicals, concerts, and other events for her students so that they know she cares about them.
