Planning and preparation are the beginning steps of teaching. It is essential for teachers to be able to create cohesive lessons and assessments that utilize resources appropriately. Each component in this domain intertwine with another and build on top of one another. In order to design coherent instruction, the teacher must set instructional outcomes and know the resources available to them. In order to set those outcomes, the teacher must know their students and the content. Finally, creating assessments is crucial to making sure teachers are portraying what is necessary in each lesson and how the students are perceiving it.
My virtual co-op shows great knowledge of content, her students, and resources. She sets instructional outcomes at the beginning of each unit and explains these clearly to the students so they know what is expected of them throughout the lesson. She also creates assessments that use a multitude of different question types so students can show what they know in a different way than strictly multiple choice questions. Knowing her students is very important to her and this is shown through how she interacts with the students and how she creates individualized goals for each of them.
